Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci are featured in the new international trailer for “Bel Ami,” The period film set in France charts the ambitious, ruthless rise of Rob’s character in Paris society.
Now that “Breaking Dawn, Part I” with Kristen Stewart has come and gone and Part II is a year away, “Bel Ami” may be the next chance Pattinson fans get to see their heartthrob in action.
Rob will show a different side to his acting prowess. For the first time, he plays the villain!

The film tells the story of George Duroy, a down-on-his luck soldier. He overflows with lust, desire and ambition as a “penniless” soldier who’s determined to find his place in French society by seducing the wives of powerful men at the center of Parisian society.
Pattinson’s explosive portrayal of Guy de Maupassant’s scandalous protagonist in decadent French society at the turn of the 19th century could be his first real opportunity to establish himself as an actor.
The period piece has been in the can for quite awhile, but is finally set to premiere in early 2012, or so the latest reports claim.
Pattinson shot the film before “Remember Me” and “Water for Elephants,” but no one has been able to pin down a solid release date.
Which is odd, given the all-star cast, not to mention one of the hottest actors in Hollywood at the moment.
Bel Ami is a Redwave Films production in association with Simon Fuller’s new company XIX, Protagonist Pictures and RaiCinema.
They are no slouches, so they could be waiting for the Twilight hype to die down from “Breaking Dawn, Part 1” and for Rob to block out some time to promote the film.
Thurman recently praised Pattinson’s performance: “He’s incredibly concrete in his presence on the set and obviously very handsome,” she told MTV.
“He’s a very nice person and he’s sensitive,” she added. “He’s present. He’s a really good actor.”
