Elle Fanning goes from campy rocker chick to decadent sparkly princess in Rodarte. The avant garde brand dresses her in their 2012 spring collection.

When it comes to Fanning and fashion, one question always comes up. Are her clothes age appropriate? After all, the sister of actress Dakota Fanning is only 13, and she’s been tarted up more than once.

Rodarte isn’t exactly exploiting her under-age sexuality, a big trend in fashion these days. Fanning, however, is unlikely to wear some of the designs to her junior high prom.

The brand, headed by sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, is known for eccentricity.  But their clothes can also be found in mid-prices stores like Target and The Gap.

Or you might also come across them in Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Both have hosted exhibitions.

Fanning seems to be wearing clothes from both worlds. Photographer Bill Owens shot the teen for A Magazine, which Kate and Laura also oversee.

Elle models the spring 2012 collection shot on location in Santa Cruz, Calif. Ashley Furnival and Shirley Kurata handled styling with hair by Michael Long. Makeup by Uzo.

The Mulleavy’s fashions exploded on the scene in 2005 and they vaulted onto the cover of Women’s Wear Daily before they even designed a dozen dresses.

Dozens of A-list Hollywood celebrities are fans. Check out Elle’s photos to see why.
