Wood, 24, is obviously comfortable in her own skin. But she needed some coaching from veteran Kate Winslet when it came time for her to do a nude scene in the HBO hit miniseries “Mildred Pierce.”
“She was very nervous actually,” Winslet told the LA Times. “I remember doing my first full-on nude scene when I was 19, and I was absolutely terrified, so I knew how she felt.”
Wood has appeared in such films as the controversial movie, “Thirteen” and “The Wrestler” with Mickey Rourke. She’s also doffed her top in the hit series “True Blood” as Sophie-Anne Leclerq, a 500-year-old Vampire Queen.
“I learned that I needed to control the situation in order not to be too self-conscious,” she says of on-screen nudity. “I said to myself, ‘I’m an awesome naked lady, and there’s an energy that I’m going give off right now that lets you know how you’re going to feel about this,” she told Elle magazine.
The shoot by photographer Ellen von Unwerth, appears in Flaunt’s 13th anniversary issue. Brett Bailey handled the styling and Patricia Morales made up her hair and Toby Fleischman handled makeup.
“Love the new flaunt photos. Such a cool spread. And if I am going topless for anyone it’s going to be Ellen von Unwerth. I have nothing to hide and I adore her,” Wood Tweeted.
Rachel, 24, flaunts her nine her tattoos, which incidentally were covered during Mildred Pierce. Seems tats weren’t really fashionable back in the 1930s, when the series was set. She has inked her body to commemorate such things as ex-boyfriend Marilyn Manson and idol David Bowie.
“I grew up in love with David Bowie,” she says. “So I was always into very androgynous things. Guys, girls … I’m into androgyny in general.”
But wait there is a tenth thing — her vagina. Wood wore a “merkin” for her nude scene, which is actually a wig of sorts to simulate pubic hair. Women back then had never heard of a bikini wax. A merkin also conceals a lady’s private parts.
Check out her steamy photos.
