Britney Spears seems finally to have found her match with agent/fiance Jason Trawick, but one ex-husband, Jason Alexander, says he was Brit’s real love, even if it was for only 55-hours.
Spears and Alexander famously tied the knot in 2004 before following a Las Vegas romp. Their union was annulled after Brit’s management team stepped in and nipped the nuptials in the bud.
Now, while Britney prepares for her third marriage, Alexander is opening up about his relationship with the pop star, his brief marital union and what he thinks about her current plans to marry Trawick. It isn’t pretty.
“I was in love with her. I feel like she felt the same way,” he says in a wide-ranging interview with ABC show 20/20.
The problems began when the young couple broke the news to Brit’s management team. “They didn’t want to hear anything … and [Spears] came back, and it ended. That was pretty wild,” he said. But he insists, “We were in love.”
It’s not like Alexander didn’t have a history with the pop star. They had known each other since childhood and had been high-school sweethearts. Brit asked Alexander to accompany her to Vegas on her private jet, and she popped the question, he said.
Had the marriage held up however, Jason as husband, would have had a large say in Britney’s career and would be entitled to half her earnings. There was no pre-nup. The wedding occurred during a wild streak in Spears’ life.
“It was me being silly, being rebellious,” she said after the annulment. She went on to marry back-up dancer Kevin Federline and had two children with him. They divorced in 2006.
Trawick proposed in December, and Spears accepted. They will reportedly tie the knot on Valentines Day, Feb. 14th. Check out the video below:
