Robert Pattinson’s erotic period drama, “Bel Ami,” is starting to get a bigger promotional push. A new 30-second television ad has been released touting the film, with a March 29 release date.

The spot reportedly aired last night. It features Rob along with Uma Thurma, Christina Ricci and Kristen Scott Thomas.

The spot is a series of quick scenes that opens with Rob’s character, Georges Duroy, reading a Paris newspaper. A voice-over intones: “An outsider, who became the center of their world.”

“The most important people in Paris are not the men, but their wives,” is heard next. Duroy takes the advice to heart. He seduces several society women as he tries to elevate his social standing, fame and fortune in 19th century Paris, during a period known as the Belle Époque.

It began during the latter years of the 19th century and continue up until World War I. It was noted boundless optimism, new technological and medical inventions and rapid riches from industrialization.

Enter Duroy, a penniless ex-soldier who makes a chance meeting with an old comrade in arms, who has struck it rich in the City of Light. He invites Duroy into his world, where the ruthless and ambitious fortune-hunter seduces his way to the top of Parisian society.

But the voice over warns: “In the game of seduction, there is everything to lose.”

Rob’s character is the diametrical opposite of Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” series of vampire films.

“My Bel Ami guy doesn’t have a conscience,” he told the Edinburgh Herald newspaper in Scotland.

“Most fictional characters are driven by some target, but he is like a reverse character. He’s so content to do nothing and thinks everything should just be given to him,” he says.

Rob is on the promotion trail for the film. He’ll be making stops at the Berlin Film Festival and likely the Glasgow Film Festival in Scotland.

“Bel Ami” will hold its world premiere in Berlin on Feb. 17, and will also screen at the Glasgow festival, which runs from Feb. 16 to Feb. 26. Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas also star. Thurman and Ricci are scheduled to be in Berlin as well.

The movie is slated to open in theaters March 29, according to the ad, which appeared on UK Whether that’s in the United States or a UK release is unknown.
