Kaia Gerber

Model Cindy Crawford, amid an uproar over underage models at New York Fashion Week, has ended her own 10-year-old daughter’s budding professional career, until she is at least 17.

TheImproper reported last month that Crawford allowed her pre-teen daughter Kaia to pose for the racy Italian luxury brand Versace. She modeled the brand’s new children’s line.

She looked over-sexualized in heavy makeup and a thigh-high skirt. Kaia was one of the highest-profile pre-teen and early-teen models posing for top designer brands. The issue isn’t so much their age; rather the girls often wear adult-style makeup and clothes.

The modeling trend is more pronounced in Europe, but it is gaining a foothold in the United States.

Anais Gallegher, the 11-year-old daughter of former Oasis singer-songwriter Noel Gallagher is also modeling professionally. Supermodel Kate Moss’ half-sister Charlotte Moss, known as Lottie, has also debuted as a professional model at 13.

But Crawford has now drawn the line on her daughter’s career. “At this point, she’s too young to pursue a career. There aren’t even a handful of jobs for a 10-year-old girl,” said Crawford, 45, who began modeling as a 16-year-old.

What she meant is there aren’t enough age-appropriate jobs. Pre-teen models are in high demand, especially in Europe. Thylane Blondeau is one of the hottest new models in French fashion. She’s 10 years old. Blondeau caused an uproar when she posed for an adult style fashion spread in Vogue Paris.

At the time Kaia debuted for Versace, Crawford praised the brand in a statement. “I’m so thrilled that Kaia was chosen to be part of the first Young Versace Campaign,” she said.
