Hamm, 40, calls both Kardashian and Hilton “fu*king idiots” and rips the “cult of celebrity” that has made them famous… and rich.
“Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated,” he said in the new April issue of Elle’s UK edition. “Being a f***ing idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly.”
The hunky actor, who plays a slick advertising executive on his show, says the success of reality TV stars “doesn’t make any sense” to him.
He also lashed out at Hollywood for idealizing “blonde, skinny women” as the “epitome of beauty.”
Curvy women like his Mad Men co-star Christina Hendricks are more beautiful, he says.
“I don’t even consider myself handsome,” he said. “When I look in the mirror I see my goofy-assed self from when I was a kid.”
And, while his character Don Draper likes to play the field, that’s also not his style. He has been with girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt for 15 years, although he says he has no plans to marry.
“Having a piece of paper serves to remind you of your commitment, but we do a pretty good job of reminding each other,” he said.
“Mad Men” is set to begin it’s fifth season Mar. 25, at 9 p.m. (8 central) on AMC. It will pick up with Draper making a surprise marriage proposal to secretary Megan, played by Jessica Pare. Secretly, though, he’s just looking for a mother figure for his three kids.
