Ridley Scott personally introduced a new extended trailer for “Prometheus,” at WonderCon. The clip for his widely anticipated return to science fiction shows new footage and, for the first time, includes dialogue that provides clues to the movie’s mysterious plot.

The 2:32 clip was unveiled today (Mar. 18) at the WonderCon convention in Anaheim, Calif. Scott was joined by co-writer Damon Lindelof and stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender, to introduce the new trailer.

The clip opens with never before seen footage of an raging river and a huge horseshoe waterfall. The scene is dark and foreboding.

As the water rages in the background, someone who looks battered lifts a hand. A voice intones: “A king has his reign. And then he dies.”

Then, the clip cuts to a scene of the spaceship Prometheus streaking through the atmosphere of the alien planet. Shades of “2001 a Space Odyssey!” A strange pictograph is common to several alien civilizations hundreds of centuries apart.

In the first plot reveals, it seems a map is found in a cave by two children. It contains information pointing to an advanced civilization that may have been a precursor to humans on earth. “Not a map, an invitation,” says Rapace’s character Elizabeth Shaw, an archaeologist and scientist.

“From who?” asks one of the astronauts.

The crew explore the planet of an advanced alien civilization while searching for the origins of humanity. But it’s a truly alien world occupied by creatures that were featured in the 1979 movie “Alien.”

Panic sets in on the alien planet. The crew is clearly in over their head and earth is imperiled.

“Big things have small beginnings,” says one of the crew members.

Guy Pearce, Idris Elba and Logan Marshall-Green also star in the sci-fi horror story.
