Lindsay Lohan has gambled her on-screen credibility on Director Paul Schrader’s and writer Bret Easton Ellis’s film noir spoof “The Canyons.” At least it looks like a spoof. The acting is terrible in a new trailer.

Lohan, 26, once one of the hottest actresses in Young Hollywood, hasn’t had a decent film in five years.

Her last significant role was in 2007’s “Georgia Rule,” with Jane Fonda. Critics near universally panned the film. It made about $25 million at the box office worldwide.

During most of her hiatus she had a few bit parts and spent most of her time in court, fending off a jail sentence for a 2007 drunk driving arrest and later for theft allegations. Her personal life was also a wreck.

She was determined to prove she could still act, and landed what could be a comeback role in the made-for-TV movie “Liz and Dick,” about the tumultuous relationship between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

Hopefully, “The Canyons” won’t trash what’s left of her reputation. She stars with porn star James Deen, making his first legitimate film appearance.

The trailer is shot in black and white and is produced, with all the cliches, like a preview to a ’50s-era drama. The production value looks horrible. But hey, it’s a spoof right?

Lohan plays a character named Tara, who is torn between two lovers and up to something evil. Lohan does a lot of emotional weeping in the trailer and gets shoved around by Christian (Deen), who threatens to kill her other lover Ryan, played by Nolan Funk.

“The Canyons” is supposed to be released to video-on-demand and likely DVD in 2013. Check out the clip below and click here to follow TheImproper on Twitter for more Lindsay Lohan updates.
