Kim Kardashian, who is known for her natural beauty, returned from her trip to the Middle East with a horrid looking Herpes cold sore on her upper lip. It’s the first time she’s been seen with such an infection. Did Kanye West infect her?

The Herpes virus, which causes cold sores, is infectious and can be transmitted between people, usually by kissing or mouth to body contact in other, ahem, places.

This is believed to be the first time Kim has been spotted with such an ugly sore. Even more surprising is why she let it get so far out of control. There are effective medicines on the market that can stop Herpes’s related cold sores in their tracks.

Once infected, the Herpes virus is almost impossible to get rid of. It lies dormant most of the time, unnoticed. But during times of stress or when the body’s immune system is dragged down by colds or other factors, it becomes active and multiplies creating blistering and redness.

During those times, Kim is infectious.

The fact that she let it go untreated suggests she may not have known she had the infection. While it’s related to genital herpes, it’s not the same.

Kim is known for her beautiful features and skin, but also suffers from psoriasis. In February, she had a major outbreak on her legs which she could not conceal. The affliction, which causes redness, itchiness and flaking skin, is hereditary.

Kim was spotted with the outbreak while arriving at Miami International Airport. The outbreak was clearly visible in photos taken by waiting paparazzi, in what amount to a significant outbreak. Kim later said she has had the problem since childhood.

Kim is returning from a high-stress trip to Kuwait an Bahrain. She was there to dedicate the opening of a new chain of milkshake shops, but her appearance in both countries drew protests. Police were forced to drive away protesters with tear gas at an event in Bahrain.

Don’t feel too sorry for her. Now she has a brand new product endorsement opportunity. Caa-ching!
