bradpitt-cadillacBrad Pitt has something else in common with his pal George Clooney. They both are now making television commercials overseas. Brad has reportedly cut a deal to hawk Cadillacs in China. Clooney’s been selling stuff for years.

Although A-List actors are loath to sell products in the United States, with a few exceptions, they drop all pretense overseas.

Two years ago, Clooney teamed up with John Malkovich to make a television commercial for Nescafe Nespresso coffee machines. It only aired in the UK.

A-Lister Julia Roberts also appeared in a 45-second advertisement for Italian coffee house Lavazza in 2010. And she doesn’t even have any lines.

Most stars are motivated by the quick money they can earn. Roberts reportedly pulled down 1.2 million euros, or roughly $1.5 million for her work.

The whole idea was lampooned in Sofia Coppola’s 2003 film “Lost in Translation” about an aging actor, Bill Murray, who goes to Japan to make a television commercial and meets a fetching young woman played by Scarlett Johannson.

Pitt, who was widely derided for making a commercial for Chanel No. 5 perfume, will next do print and television ads in China for the General Motors car, according to E! News.

Filming is supposed to be underway, and Pitt has even joined the Chinese social networking website Sina Weibo to lay the groundwork for his appearance.

“It is the truth. Yup, I’m coming …” he recently wrote on the site.
