justintimberlake-suittieWhen Justin Timberlake wants to get back into music, he does it in a big way with a new song and some spit power from rapper Jay-Z. He rolled out a new “lyric video” today (Jan. 24) for his song “Suit & Tie.”

One thing that hasn’t changed is Justin’s raspy falsetto.

He sings the easy-listening, finger-snapping tune like he’s taking a Sunday drive in a vintage convertible with the top down, which is precisely how the video opens.

Justin, in shades and a porkpie hat, is behind the wheel. The song goes up-tempo about a third of the way through. Justin opts for a tailored look in a snappy suit and tie. Director Laban Pheidias, who’s worked with Adam Lambert and Alicia Keys, helms the video, according to MTV News.

The clip debuted on the network this morning. “Suit & Tie” is the first single off his upcoming album The 20/20 Experience. If the song is any indication, Justin is aiming for big production values with lots of brass and snazzy pop tunes.

Justin also goes for a retro look to accompany the music. When he takes a seat at a piano he steps back through time to the ’50s or early ’60s and channels smooth crooners like Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin and Mel Torme.

Not that Justin measures up to any of them, at least not yet in his career, unless every generation gets the Sinatra it deserves. Still you can’t knock the atmosphere: cigarettes, coffee, black-rimmed glasses, sheet music, white socks, black loafers.

The day-in-the-life video ends with Justin suited up in a tux at a casino, scotch in hand. He finishes big with a hammer.

The 20/20 Experience is expected to drop March 19. If the song is any indication, it should be a blockbuster. The song reached No 1 on iTunes singles charts in 31 countries, including the United States, according to the label. .
