Kelly Clarkson is up for three Grammy awards this year.

Kelly Clarkson thinks award shows like the Grammys are a big pain and it’s not because she has to get all dressed up and go out. Other artists are the problem. They think “they’re too cool for school,” she says.

Clarkson opened up about the annual music industry gathering, even though she’s slated to perform there and is up for three Grammys this year, including the top honor, Record of the Year.

“No one talks to each other,” Clarkson told ABC News. “Everyone shuts their doors. Everyone’s too cool for school. Not everyone but for the most part.

She says she sometimes has to drag herself to the events, “cause…it’s so painful. It’s just not fun.”

The pop singer, who won the premiere season of Fox’s “American Idol,” is one of the hardest working women in music. She’s built a solid music career since then and this year sang at President Obama’s inauguration.

While pop and rock stars appear to be stuck on themselves, Clarkson says the atmosphere is always different at country music awards shows like Country Music Association Awards or the Academy of Country Music Awards.

“Everyone talks. Everyone hangs out,” she said. “It’s just a nice environment. It’s welcoming.”

In addition to Record of the Year, Clarkson is also up for Best Pop Solo Performance for song “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Stronger, her fifth studio album. It was her second to debut at No. 2 on the charts with 163,000 sales the first week. It went platinum in September with more than 1 million sales.
