Frank Ocean is up for three major awards at the Grammys.
Gramaphones will be handed out in 81 categories and you can see those that don’t make the regular broadcast on live stream.
Check out the nominees for major awards below, and go to the Grammys site for a full list of award nominees.
The awards are considered the most prestigious in the industry and are voted on by members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
The four top categories are “Album of the Year,” “Record of the Year,” “Song of the Year” and “Best New Artist.” Those are the only categories open to all genres of music.
Record of the Year honors is a contest between sentimental favorite Kelly Clarkson for her song “Strong,” and Frank Ocean’s “Thinkin Bout You.” Taylor Swift is also a threat to win for her song “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”
Ocean is also in the running for coveted Album of the year. But a strong darkhorse contender is newcomer Fun. for their album Some Nights. It’s a tough category to call because of excellent contributions by The Black Keys for El Camino, Mumford & Sons’ Babel and Jack White’s powerful Blunderbuss.
Song of the Year is a horserace between “Call Me Maybe” by Jepsen and Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).” But “We Are Young” by Fun., featuring Janelle Monáe is a darkhorse contender.
In the best new artist category, it’s also a toss-up among Alabama Shakes, Fun., Hunter Hayes, The Lumineers and Frank Ocean. Our bet is on Ocean, again, but Fun. is a wildcard and Alabama Shakes could pull and upset.
