Chris Brown and Rihanna were finally able to keep their Grammy date, after Brown’s brutally assaulted the pop star four years ago and kept both from attending the signature music event.

It was clearly a coming out party for the duo and one of the sub-dramas of the evening.

Rihanna, 24, and Brown, 23, arrived separately and did not walk the red carpet together, briefly raising a question about whether they would mingle or sit together once inside.

But Rihanna sidled up to the R&B singer and left no doubt where her affections lie. She was photographed leaning her head on Brown’s shoulder with a huge smile.

How much have the two changed? For Brown not much. He was forced to return to court after the L.A. prosecutor’s office charged that he violated his probation by falsifying records about performing community service as part of his sentence for pleading guilty to felony assault. He was also sentenced to five years probation.

Last month, Brown also reportedly punched singer Frank Ocean in a melee that started over a parking space outside a West Hollywood recording studio. Ocean decided not to press charges, but bad blood still exists between the two.

Ocean had the last laugh last night when Channel Orange won best urban contemporary album, beating out Brown’s album Fortune. Ocean received a standing ovation as he took the stage, but Brown remained seated.

He still hasn’t grown up. Rihanna, though, feels certain he’s a changed man. “I decided it was more important for me to be happy,” she told Rolling Stone magazine.

“I wasn’t going to let anybody’s opinion get in the way of that. Even if it’s a mistake, it’s my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I’d rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it,” she said.

As for Brown, she said: “He doesn’t have the luxury of f*****g up again,”
