Seth MacFarlane brings frat boy humor to the Oscars.

Seth MacFarlane steered clear of Nazi jokes at the 85th Academy Awards, but provided more than a few awkward moments during the live broadcast. He wasn’t the only one, however, who suffered through some odd, awkward or just plain weird moments.

MacFarlane most off-key joke came during a presentation of Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” as best picture.

MacFarlane started the bit by noting that Daniel Day-Lewis wasn’t the first actor to earn a nomination from portraying Lincoln. He mentioned Raymond Massey who played Lincoln him in the 1940s in “Abe Lincoln in Illinois.” Then, came the punchline.

“I would argue, however, that the actor who really got inside Lincoln’s head was John Wilkes Booth,” he deadpanned to groans and gasps from the audience. Booth, of course, assassinated Lincoln with a gunshot… badda boom.. in his head.

“Really, 150 years and it’s too soon, huh?” MacFarlane said trying to recover. “I got some Napoleon jokes coming up; you guys are going to be so mad.”

Again, not as bad as his Nazi joke when he announced the Oscar nominations, but MacFarlane played it safe by mainly sticking with frat boy humor, from the opening number “We Saw Your Boobs” to the closing number, a tribute to “The Losers.”

He threw out plenty of zingers about the audience but none were more cutting than his attempt to describe Quentin Tarantino’s violent film, “Django Unchained.”

“This is the story of a man fighting to get back his woman, who’s been subjected to unthinkable violence. Or as Chris Brown and Rihanna call it, a date movie.”

He was obviously referring to Brown’s vicious 2009 assault of his then-and-now girlfriend Rihanna. But the awkward moments didn’t end there.

Yes, that was MacFarlane voicing Ted the stuffed bear during Mark Walberg’s presentation. After all, he co-wrote and directed the film. But his Jewish-riff just fell painfully flat. Wrong room.
