John Edwards, who threw away his promising political career on an office fling that humiliated his dying wife, is reportedly drinking himself to death. His doctors warn that excessive alcohol consumption could kill him in six months.

Edwards, 59, suffered a recent heart attack scare that reportedly prompted his doctors to warn him to cut back on alcohol or else.

His heart condition caused a postponement in his Jan. 2012 corruption trial last year. This time, he was at home when he started to feel pain in his chest, according to The National Enquirer, which is hit or miss on these types of stories.

Edwards reportedly summoned his mistress Rielle Hunter, with whom he has a love child. Hunter reportedly drove him to the emergency room, a source close to the family claimed.

The tabloid first reported Edwards’ affair with Hunter in 2008 during the presidential campaign, when Edwards was a leading candidate. It also discovered that she was having his child, Quinn, now five years old.

The former Senator and one-time presidential candidate was held overnight for observation N.C. Memorial Hospital. Doctors there reportedly attributed the problem to heavy alcohol consumption and warned him that he could be dead in six months if he continues boozing.

Hunter lives near the house Edwards shares with his two children by his late-wife Elizabeth. She was suffering from cancer while Edwards was seeing Hunter.

Ms Hunter and their now-5-year-old daughter live in a home near to the one where John lives with his two children Emma Claire, 14, and Jack, 12, from his marriage.

Edwards has a family history of heart disease, and collapsed while jogging in December 2011, according to the tabloid. For the latest celebrity news updates, be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter. Keep the Internet free. TheImproper will never charge for content.
