Chloe Moretz gets ready to rumble in a remake of Carrie.

Chloe Grace Moretz is wide-eyed, vulnerable and longing for a friend, any friend, in a new trailer for “Carrie.” Stephen King’s classic horror story redefines the meaning of revenge against high school bullies.

Carrie was played to devastating effect by Sissy Spacek in the 1976 adaptation of the book, while Piper Laurie was equally powerful as her deranged, Christian fundamentalist mother. Both were nominated for Academy Awards.

But Moretz and Julianne Moore, as Carrie’s mother, Mary White, look like they’ll match or exceed the original film characters in sheer terror and insanity.

Is Chloe Moretz Going Too Far Sexually in Movies, Magazines?

Mortez, who just turned 16 in February, exudes an innocence and vulnerability that go beyond Spacek’s portrayal, while at the same time she has the ability to fire up the demons when she needs to.

Moore is one of the best actresses of her generation. She’s hands-down terrifying in the trailer. Still, it would have been interesting to see Angelina Jolie in that role. Just a thought.

King, himself, asked the penultimate question when the remake was announced. “Why, when the original was so good?” he said. Oddly, he also suggested Lindsay Lohan to play Carrie. Now that would have been a movie; Lohan as Carrie and Jolie as her mother.

But Director Kimberly Peirce, didn’t go wrong with her choice of actresses. The trailer provides a glimpse inside the White household, as Mary sings hymns and frequently locks Carrie in a closet to pray for her soul.

With each humiliation, at school and home, Carrie’s telekinetic power grows until she realizes she has the ability to make things move. Come the night of the high school prom, she unleashes her full power with devastating effect.
