While the meeting was informal and the conversation was probably light, the fact that the two A-listers huddled with Stewart at the private Soho House club was a symbolic show of solidarity with the much scrutinized “Twilight” actress.
The film festival was Stewart’s first public appearance since her cheating scandal with “Snow White and the Huntsman” Director Rupert Sanders went public, blindsiding her boyfriend of four years and Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson.
“They’re just three girls having a quiet chat after a long day and an even longer night working,” SoHo House founder Nick Jones told London’s Daily Mail.
All three were at the festival to promote new films. Stewart, of course, was there for “On the Road,” the movie about the seminal Jack Kerouac ’50s Beat Generation novel. Watson was promoting “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” and Lawrence was backing her Harvey Weinstein indie film, “Silver Linings Playbook.”
Kristen was spotted sitting in a cushy wing chair wearing her black-rimmed geek glasses. Emma and Jennifer were sitting on each side of her like consoling sisters. It’s unknown what they were talking about or whether Pattinson was the subject of conversation.
Stewart flew to the festival from Los Angeles and was greeted with pointed questions and heckling from the paparazzi as she walked to airport checkin. In Canada, however, which is known for its polite fans, she was warmly greeted.
Stewart, never comfortable under any circumstances on the red carpet, looked on edge during her appearance and her comments were more disjointed than usual. But her confab with Lawrence and Watson, who were thought to be rivals, was a welcome sign that she’s still accepted where it counts in Hollywood.
