Adele Scores With James Bond Theme Song 'Skyfall' (listen!) 1Adele came to mind when producer Paul Epworth was looking for a singer who could add a “gravity and dynamic” to the new theme song for the latest James Bond film “Skyfall.” She was hesitant at first, but went along, and the result is a classic.

The song was released today (Oct. 4), a day ahead of schedule after the tune leaked on a French radio station and it does not disappoint.

“I was a little hesitant at first to be involved with the theme song … there’s a lot of instant spotlight and pressure when it comes to a ‘Bond’ song,” the singer, real name Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, said in a statement.

“But I fell in love with the script and Paul had some great ideas for the track, and it ended up being a bit of a no-brainer,” she added.

Backed by a 77-piece orchestra at London’s famed Abbey Road studios, Adele’s distinctive voice and soul inflections captured the feel of the early 1960 Bond films and added a contemporary spin. It’s moody, melancholic and haunting, just like the life of a mysterious secret agent.

The “Skyfall” theme also marks the 50th anniversary of the first James Bond film. “Dr. No” premiered on Oct. 5, 1962, starring Sean Connery as the first James Bond. It was based on the 1958 Ian Fleming novel by the same name. The day will be known as “Global James Bond Day.”

Producer Epworth called Adele’s performance “jaw-dropping” in an interview with the BBC. “The initial chords happened quite quickly, but we spent a few months shaping it, tweaking it,” he explained. “A song like this has to have a gravity and dynamic rather than [be] an instant pop song. Hopefully it’s got lasting value.”

In the latest Bond film, the 23rd in the series, Daniel Craig stars in his third performance as Agent 007. He turns up missing and presumed dead after a catastrophe in Turkey. All of the names of MI-6 agents are published on the Internet as a result. He reappears just in time to save M, although secrets from her past challenge his loyalty.

“Skyfall” will be released Nov. 9. Check out the song below and click here to follow TheImproper on Twitter for more film and music updates.
