Lana Del Rey is only halfway through her 15 minutes of fame and already she’s questioning her sanity in a new video opus for her new single “Ride.” “I was always an unusual girl,” Del Rey says wistfully. And how.

The “Born to Die” singer hooks up with some rough trade in the opening of the video, as she plays a motorcycle-riding prostitute down her luck and hustling tricks to survive.

“I was a singer. Not a very popular one,” she explains. “I once had dreams of becoming a beautiful poet. But, upon an unfortunate series of events, saw those dreams dashed and divided like a million stars in the night sky that I wished on, over and over again, sparkling and broken.”

Her descent seems to include armed robbery and even hints of murder, while she pals around with motorcycle riders, does some street walking and picks up a John. “I belonged to no one, who belonged to everyone,” she says.

She is driven by her desire to be free and return to a way of life in America when freedom was symbolized by the open road. “Every night I used to pray that I’d find my people,” Del Rey says. “And finally I did … on the open road.”

Her new album Born to Die, The Paradise Edition will be released Nov. 13. Check out the video below and click here to follow TheImproper on Twitter for more music updates.
