Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man suffers from the ancient biblical curse; the sins of the father are borne by the son. That’s the theme of the latest trailer for the new Spider-Man reboot.

Along the way in his search me makes some powerful enemies, among them the police and the evil Lizard.

The trailer also highlights the film’s incredible special effects. The 3D production, shot mostly at night, will feature Spider-Man web-swinging around New York City, dodging the police.

Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase belonging to his father, which leads him to his dad’s former partner, Dr. Connors. Through his brash experiments, Connors transforms into the Lizard.

His father (Campbell Scott) was a research scientist toying with DNA when he abandoned Peter at a young age. Rhys Ifans plays the Lizard, while Emma Stone plays his love interest Gwen Stacy.

Gwen applies some TLC to Peter’s scrapes and scratches in the video, while her father, her Police Chief father, played by Dennis Leary, mobilizes 500 officers to track down Spider-Man. “That’s a bit excessive,” says Peter.

The film, one of this summer’s major blockbusters, will hit theaters July 3.
