Kristen Stewart and the cast of “On the Road,” the film about Jack Kerouac’s seminal 50s-era Beat Generation novel, will hit the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Watch a live stream of the event here.
Stewart stars with Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley and Kirsten Dunst, who play characters in Kerouac’s fictionalized account of his trip across America with Neal Cassady.
Riley plays Sal Paradise and Hedlund plays Dean Moriarty. Kristen plays Marylou, who is Moriarty’s first wife. The book helped give rise to the Beat Generation in the ’50s and the counter culture in the 1960s.
So far the film has received middling reviews from critics in Europe who already have seen the picture. The Hollywood Reporter, however, gave Kristen a “perfect” for her role.
Ironically, her film is going up against Robert Pattinson’s new film “Cosmopolis,” about a bizarre day in the life of a fictional Wall Street financier Eric Packer.
Both actors have a lot riding on the films. They both want to move on from their recurring role as Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen in the immensely successful “Twilight” series of films. The last in the series, “Breaking Dawn, Part 2” debuts in November.
Will Rob walk down the red carpet with Kristen. Tune in below. Editor’s Note: This event has ended, but check out clips from the event below.
