Katie Holmes

Katie Holmes made it clear, if it wasn’t already, that Scientology, was in fact, a major reason she filed for divorce, despite claims to the contrary by Hollywood hunk and now ex-husband, Tom Cruise.

Holmes signed up today as a parishioner at Roman Catholic Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City. She was raised a Catholic, but switch to Scientology when she married Cruise in 2006.

“Everyone is thrilled to have Katie join us,” a member of the church told Naughty But Nice Rob Shuter

“She has not yet attended a service, but when she does she will be welcomed with open arms,” the source said. Churchgoers better get used to being mobbed by paparazzi.

Although the Church practices Catholicism, it reportedly welcomes gays and lesbians to join the congregation, even though the Pope has regularly condemned homosexuality as a sin. In contrast, Scientology merely denies that homosexuality exists, a lot cleaner that way.

The church sends out a good vibe on it’s Web site proclaiming it’s a place “where seekers and their questions are welcomed, where injustice is challenged, where the poor, the alienated and marginalized find a home, and where people are refreshed, reconciled and renewed.”

Are you sure this is a Catholic church? Hard to see how the Vatican can let it get away with those sentiments. The church was founded in 1851 by Jesuits from the village of Fordham, according to its Web site.
