Beyoncé is tossing her hat in the political ring, so to speak, with a glowing endorsement in a new video of President Obama’s wife Michelle. The first lady and the first lady of song have worked together on Michelle’s health initiatives.
The video focuses on a letter the singer wrote to the first lady in April. Beyonce expresses her gratitude for everything Michelle is doing for the country and the world.
Beyoncé posted on her blog three months ago and followed up with the video. It appears as though the singer made the video herself because it does not include the usual political disclosure statement at the beginning.
“I am so in awe of Michelle Obama. Every time I see her she inspires me, she empowers me, she encourages me to live a healthy lifestyle, to support our veterans,” Beyoncé says.
Her voice over plays against a backdrop of scenes of Obama attending various events and interacting with children. Beyonce called Michelle “the ultimate example of a truly strong African-American woman.”
From a political perspective, the ad comes as no surprise. She and husband, Jay-Z, have long been big Obama supporters. Beyonce was also prominent at a fundraiser for the president in March hosted by actor Robert De Niro at New York’s Greenwich Hotel.
