kerry-kennedy-newserKerry Kennedy, the latest member of the star-crossed clan to run afoul of the law, has sparked protests from police over the way Kennedy family members are trying to manipulate facts in the case to “cloud” the police investigation.

Kerry, the sister of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose wife Mary Richardson Kennedy committed suicide in May amid a bitter divorce, was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs after she crashed into a truck and left the scene of the accident.

Police said Kennedy could not walk without assistance, talk coherently or see straight after her damaged car was discovered on the side of an adjoining road next to Interstate 684 north of New York City, where the crash occurred.

Kerry, 52, admitted at the time that she had taken the powerful prescription drug ambien, a sleep aid that sometimes causes hallucinations, dream-like states of consciousness and sleep-walking.

Rachel Uchitel, one of Tiger Wood’s alleged mistresses, said she and Woods used the drug during sex to enhance the experience.

Within hours of the crash, the Kennedy family began an aggressive public relations campaign that has only served to obfuscate what happened, according to The New York Post, citing police sources. The tactics were described as those typically used by an “organized crime family.”

The Kennedys produced private blood and urine tests shortly after her arrest was announced, which they said showed she was not using drugs or alcohol. Official test results taken by police are still pending.

Kerry Kennedy, who is the ex-wife of New York Gov. Andrew Coumo,  and her brother Chris Kennedy, have already held at least one news conference. She claimed she had a medical seizure related to a distant head injury.

“The family is so aggressive, they act like some organized-crime family,” a police official told the newspaper. “Ninety minutes after the State Police issued a press release, [Kennedy spokesman] Ken Sunshine puts out a release that says she’s clean.

“Right now, they’re obfuscating. I don’t believe any of it,” the official said.

Kennedy has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Truck driver, Rocco Scuiletti, 47, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., has also been charged with leaving the scene of an accident because he knew his truck had been hit but did not stop and report the accident.
