Kristen Stewart took the first tentative steps toward returning to public life, or at least being seen in public, since her affair with Snow White Director Rupert Sanders blew up in the tabloids. Is she ready to face up to what she did?

After various hand-wringing reports that she was living on cigarettes and red bull, Stewart, 22, looked fresh and rested, if glum, as paparazzi caught up with her on a Los Angeles street.

Boyfriend of four years Robert Pattinson has been busy in the spotlight promoting his new movie “Cosmopolis,” which opened in the United States last weekend. The film has pulled in $2.9 million worldwide, including about $80,000 from it’s opening at three locations in the U.S. It was considered a solid launch for the indie film.

Pattinson and Stewart are not known to have met since the cheating scandal became public, although some reports claim the two have texted and spoken by telephone.

Stewart wore Rob’s Baltimore Orioles baseball cap and a belly-baring tee-shirt. She kept her head down and face expressionless.

Neither Stewart nor Pattinson will be attending any Twilight conventions, but they weren’t scheduled to attend, even before the scandal broke. Kristen, however, is due to make a red carpet appearance at the opening of her film “On the Road” at the Toronto Film Festival.

“On the Road” premiered in May in competition for the Palme d’Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Critics mostly panned the film. It scored a 40 percent rating on the Web site rottentomatoes, which is considered “rotten.”

Kristen is expected to follow through with promotion for the film after its showing in Toronto. The film will debut in the U.S. on Dec. 21. Rob will continue his promotional duties for “Cosmopolis” with an appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” tomorrow (Aug. 22).
