Whitney Houston, Jordon Sparks, TheImproper.comWhitney Houston showed what might have been had she lived in a new trailer for her upcoming movie “Sparkle.” The clip aired this morning on NBC’s “Today” and Houston looked poised and polished in the preview. Her life was anything but polished. She died at 48 in February on the eve of the Grammy Awards Show. Her body was found submerged in a bathtub. Drowning is the official cause of her death, complicated by atherosclerosis and cocaine use. The drug was found in her system and apparently was also recovered in her room by police.

Houston, who had suffered from drug abuse for years, was attempting to mount a music and film comeback. “Sparkle,” a remake of the 1976 original film, had some parallels with her own life. She also was an executive producer. Inspired by ’60s group The Supremes led by Diana Ross, “Sparkle” is set in Harlem, during the late 1950s and early 1960s If follows singer Sparkle Williams, played by Jordon Sparks. Houston plays the mother of the three teens who form an all-girl singing group and struggle with fame and drug addiction. The film will debut 20 years after her breakthrough role in the 1992 film “The Bodyguard,” with Kevin Costner. Houston’s movie will debt Aug. 17. Check out the clip below:
