Red Hot Russian spy Anna Chapman was more threatening than her Keystone Kop image suggests. She was close to seducing a key Obama official when the FBI pounced on her band of hapless undercover agents in 2010.

FBI counter-intelligence chief Frank Figliuzzi made the startling claim during a BBC documentary that aired last night. He said she came close to bedding one of Obama’s inner circle.

Chapman, 30, who is known for her fetching 007-style looks, was “closer and closer to higher and higher ranking leadership… she got close enough to disturb us,” Figliuzzi said.

“We were becoming very concerned,” he explained. “They were getting close enough to a sitting US cabinet member that we thought we could no longer allow this to continue.”

He stopped short of identifying the official, however.

The spy ring, which included 10 deep cover agents, living mostly in New Jersey, was under surveillance for some time. At the time the ring was broken up, it was portrayed as largely clueless and never obtained any valuable intelligence information.

Chapman was arrested in June 2010 in New York City after FBI agents moved in on the ring. She was eventually sent back to Russia where she was hailed as a hero. She’s been a national celebrity ever since.

Several nude photos of her went viral on the Internet, and she appeared in a number of provocative magazine photo spreads. Last month, she took to the runway during Russian Fashion Week in a skin-tight leather.
