Courtney Love and Hole

Courtney Love and her band Hole reunited after 15 years.

Courtney Love dropped in on the original members of her grunge era band Hole for a surprising reunion in Brooklyn last night (Apr. 13). The band played following the premiere of Hole drummer Patty Schemel’s documentary on her drug addiction.

The line-up included Schemel on drums, Melissa Auf der Maur, Eric Erlandson and Love, who shocked band members when she showed up to play two songs. She was not at the documentary premiere.

“Is there a lady in the house, who still might want to join us for a song?” asked Auf der Maur. Then, suddenly Courtney appeared with a bottle in hand.

It took a few minutes to get her a guitar and wired up. Then the band performed “Miss World” and “Over The Edge.”

Love and Erlandson founded the band and had their heyday throughout much of the 1990s a decade when the Grunge sound out of Seattle dominated rock music. The band’s third album, Celebrity Skin in 1998 was probably their biggest.

Love married Kurt Cobain, frontman for Nirvana, who committed suicide in 1994. Hole officially disbanded in 2002.

Schemel, chronicles her battle with drug addiction in her documentary “Hit So Hard,” which doubles as a window into the Grunge era.

As Grunge transformed the music industry, Schemel and other artists were swept up. They went from living in tiny shared apartments in Seattle to international superstars.

“Some handled it well… and some did not. Just three years later, the drug-related deaths of several prominent musicians, capped by the suicide of Kurt Cobain, closed the books on an all too brief era,” according to a promo for the film.

“Schemel was right in the middle of all of it. The openly gay woman who always felt “different” never dreamed she would be part of a multi-platinum selling band, touring with legends, or on the cover of Rolling Stone. Or that, thanks to drug addiction, she could lose it all.”

For Hole fans, the reunion was special and kind of emotional; check it out below.
