Supermodel Heidi Klum has no qualms about posing nude, although she admits in a new interview that she could not get fashion work early in her career – “not in Paris or Berlin or even in New York City. The problem, however, was ultimately her solution.
“I tried but no one would book me,” she says. “I was too curvy and too busty and a little too short. And I was a little bit self-conscious about it.
“But I was by no means heavy, I just—well, you have hips and boobs, and that’s it. In haute couture, you don’t really see girls with big boobs. And I always wanted first to be a model.”
“So I had to say, ‘OK, you’re going to find other things to do in this industry, or it’s maybe not my industry.'”
Fortunately it was her industry. She poses nude in Allure’s May issue, just to prove it again. At 38, after four children, she is toned and beautiful, without the help of plastic surgery.
“I’m proud to be able to say, in this day and age, I haven’t done anything,” Klum tells the magazine. “Everyone has a view of what’s not pretty and [plastic surgery] just doesn’t look pretty to me.”
Klum married UK singer Seal in 2005 and had a seemingly perfect marriage until this January, when the couple announced their separation.
“It’s hard, just like for other couples,” says the model. “People go through our trash cans. It’s crazy. And you know, we have four kids; they have to go to school.
“I had dreams of how I wanted things to be and planned for things and, as we all know today, they don’t always turn out as you dreamt them in your head,” she says.
“Sometimes life throws you a curveball, and then you just figure it out and deal with it,” she adds. “But my dream always was that – to have the perfect family and have lots of children and a beautiful garden and trampolines and swings and things.”
Klum speaks highly of the gay men in her life: “They are like this kaleidoscope of interesting thoughts and opinions. They teach you so many things about men that are useful,” she says, like how to give a blow job. She fancies she’s quite good at it. Seal was a lucky guy.
