Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury matches wits with the evil Loki, while Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron-Man tests his mettle against mighty Thor in two new Avengers trailers released by Marvel Studios.
In the most recent clip, Downey in his guise as Tony Stark had a drink with Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston. Stark gave him the lowdown on just what the demi-god is facing in the Avengers team.
Now, Loki comes face to face with Fury, who heads an international peacekeeping agency known as as S.H.I.E.L.D.
The organization has assembled the Avengers to stop Loki from destroying the earth. But at the moment, the evil joker is a bit indisposed.
Nick and the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) have Loki penned in an extra-secure room surrounded by a force field, although he scoffs at his detainment. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) are also in the room, while Loki mocks them as well.
“You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did,” Fury advises Loki.
The Avengers, however, just can’t seem to get along. In the second clip, Thor and Iron-Man go mano-a-mono in a test of strength. It looks for a moment like technology will triumph over otherworldly powers, but the contest ends in a stalemate, as the scene shifts.
Directed by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963.
The superheroes must pull the world back from the brink of disaster, if they can ever stop fighting among themselves. The film hits theaters May 4, ready to crush everything before it at the box office. It will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival Apr. 28.
