Katy Perry closed the MTV Video Music Awards with a rousing performance of her song ‘Roar.’

Katy Perry delivered the knock out punch for Sunday’s 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, with a “Rocky” themed boxing performance on an outside stage set against the Brooklyn Bridge. She sang her upbeat, empowerment song “Roar.”

Katy, 28, looked tight and toned in boxing trunks and a midriff-baring, tiger-striped bra top with her hair pulled back in braids. She may be the best shape of her life.

Her back-up dancers were all gym ready and turned the stage into a glam training center. The stage was a boxing ring around which her dancers jumped rope and shadow boxed.

Katy came out swinging from her corner and put on some dazzling moves of her own, simulating a boxer’s punching, jabbing and weaving, before busting into the chorus, “I’ve got the eye of a tiger.”

Katy has been effusive about the song in interviews, relating how it comes from her personal experience. The song, she said, is “about speaking up for yourself because there was a time in my life I didn’t stand for anything, so I fell for everything.

“Sometimes you can feel burdened by people or a thing or a relationship and it causes you to go inside yourself versus say ‘Hey! No, this isn’t okay.’ So it has been very therapeutic writing these songs. I’m getting myself stronger.”

Katy hit the red carpet wearing an animal-print Emanuel Ungaro dress, with a thigh-high slit, leopard-pattern print, gold leaf flourishes and a turtle neck.
