The home, known as Villa Au Soleil, is situated on a hilltop overlooking St. Jean Bay in the town of Lurin, St. Barthelemy. It’s a picture-postcard setting.
Martin bought the property at the height of the real estate market in 2008, but the financial crisis and the skyrocketing cost of airfare has made it tough to move even upper-bracket properties as nice as this one in the Caribbean.
The house is on the market for a mere $415 per square foot. By New York City standards, where apartments typically sell for about $1,100 a square foot, it’s bargain priced.
Steve Martin’s Stunning St. Barth’s Villa
The problem is there are just so many of them. The house is a whopping 28,191 square feet in size, and it only has four bedrooms!
But why buy when you can rent the place for a fabulous week in paradise. Martin has dropped the off-season price to $16,500 a week from $28,000 a week when he bought it. During the high season it goes for $38,000 a week, about in line with similarly swank Hamptons rentals.
And what do you get for the money? Right off the bat, how about a stunning 270-degree view of the bay, a sumptuous master bedroom and a terrace with an infinity pool?
On top of that, there are four bathrooms with outdoor showers, a full gourmet kitchen, formal dining room and an expansive living room with a media area and multiple terraces.
A caretaker’s house is also situated on a lushly landscaped half-acre. A Balinese-style gazebo has a flat-screen television. It’s surrounded by a tropical garden and lily pond.
That’s one “wild and crazy” deal. Check out the photos and follow TheImproper on Twitter for the latest celebrity news.
