The quotes were widely repeated by supposedly even the most “respected” media outlets including ABC news, “Extra-TV,” The HuffingtonPost, and a slew of other gossip sites.
Even MTV, which hosted the VMAs, reported the quotes verbatim.
But none of those sites apparently check out the comments with Miley or any of her reps. TheImproper has learned from sources close to the singer that the quotes were taken wildly out of context, if she even said them at all.

“She only did one interview since VMAs and that’s not it,” her rep told justjared.com, confirming the report.
“She sat down with MTV for her upcoming [documentary]. We haven’t released that interview yet. Someone did some creative editing of an old interview.”
The HuffingtonPost, like most other sites glibly reported that Miley had made the statements in a “new interview,” clearly implying that she was speaking about her controversial VMA medley of “We Can’t Stop” and “Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke.
TheImproper traced the source of the quotes to the UK’s Mirror newspaper and an article in Sunday People, the publication’s Sunday magazine.
“I have so many f***ing issues,” she reportedly said. “I am so f***ed up – everyone does dumb stuff when they are messed up.”
The implication is clear; Miley was saying that she gave a sexually supercharged performance because she was messed up and it was dumb for her to have done it.
But the interview was conducted five weeks ago, according to Mirror showbiz editor, Katie Hind. That’s well before the awards show, which were just last week (Aug. 25).
Whatever Miley was talking about it wasn’t the MTV VMAs. To the contrary, Miley didn’t look a bit contrite when she was spotted outside her recording studio in Los Angeles Monday (Sept 2).
She was her same old contrary self, smoking, spitting and giving one of her colleagues and photographers her middle finger. What’s more she was dressed as provocatively as ever in denim cut-offs that were so short, the pockets were exposed.
“The quotes went viral because critics of her performance thought it validated their arguments, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth,” a source said. “Miley has nothing to regret about her VMA performance and she knows it.”
The Sunday People didn’t help matters when it claimed the article was an exclusive, causing the media stampede. If was exclusive, why did the publication wait five weeks to report it?
For her part, Miley tweeted: “ain’t nobody got time for that #BS.”
She’s hard at work on he new album, Bangerz, which will be released on October 8. Miley revealed some sexy promo photos that are also in the spirit of her MTV VMA performance.
