Miley Cyrus talks about her hot new video for Wrecking Ball with Z-100 in New York

Miley Cyrus tells critics to get over the nudity in her new video for her song “Wrecking Ball,” and try to understand the heartache and emotion behind her power pop ballad about a relationship gone wrong. “It was much more of an emotional experience,” she says.

Miley, 20, spoke about the controversial video for the first time today (Sept. 11) on the Elvis Duran morning show on Z-100 radio station in New York City.

While her critics continued their hand-wringing on Miley’s radical new career direction, the “Wrecking Ball” video was racking up more than 14 million views in the first 24-hours on Vevo, setting a new record, surpassing One Direction’s 12.3 million views for their “The Best Song Ever.” video.

The video has passed 40 million views and counting, according to the latest tally.

Miley’s video, of course, followed her over-the-top performance on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, which had the pearl-clutching set in conniptions. One of the most eye-opening scenes shows her riding atop an industrial strength wrecking ball naked.

“I think the video is much more, if people get past the point that I’m naked and you actually look at me you can tell that I actually look more broken then even the song sounds,” Cyrus said.

“The song is a pop ballad. It’s one of these songs that everyone is going to relate to, everyone has felt that feeling at one point,” she added during the phone-in interview.

“If you look at my eyes, I look more sad than actually my voice sounds on the record. It was a lot harder to actually do the video than it was to even record the song. It was much more of an emotional experience.”
