Upton, 21, represented the current generation of swimsuit models to have graced the cover of the iconic issue.
And, she was in hot company. Many of the models had appeared on the cover.
Christie Brinkley, 59, looked stunning as she mugged for the camera, seemingly ageless. She covered three consecutive issues through 1981, something Kate may match this year.
Supermodel Tyra Banks, 40, appeared twice on the cover and was one of the founding members of Victoria’s Secret’s Angels. She was the first African American too appear on the cover. She accomplished the same feat in GQ magazine.
Czech model Petra Němcová, 34, was one of the first 21st Century’s cover girls. She anchored the 2003 issue. She was a contestant on Season 12 of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Petra and pro dancer Dmitry Chaplin finished eighth.
Marisa Miller, 35, appeared in every issue for seven straight years, from 2002 to 2008. She recently appeared in her first film on-screen role 2013’s science fiction comedy R.I.P.D., with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges.
Although she hasn’t been in the magazine yet, Ireland Baldwin, daughter of Alex Baldwin and Kim Basenger could be in the wings. She just turned 18 last October.
