The video is starting to go viral since it was posted yesterday from Afghanistan.
Sweden hasn’t fought a real war since 1814 when it attacked Norway, of all places. The King was settling a score arising out of the Napoleonic Wars. Norway had sided with France; Sweden with Britain and Russia.
The war lasted all of two months, starting in July and ending in August. Norway ceded defeat after losing a few skirmishes to their better-equipped and numerically superior foes.
Even so, Sweden takes its military very seriously. It’s one of Europe’s oldest standing armies.
Up until 2010, every male citizen had to serve at least a year in uniform. Since then, it’s gone to an all volunteer army like the United States.
Although, it’s a little light on wars, the army has served in hot spots like the Congo, the Bosnian War and more recently Libya and Afghanistan.
Apparently these marines must have caught a glimpse of videos of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan performing routines to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” and “Telephone,” by Lady Gaga and Beyonce.
