Selena Gomez is Seventeen magazine’s most powerful girl under 21, according to its latest issue.

Selena Gomez says her split from Justin Bieber, as bad it was, empowered her and helped her get over feeling like an underdog, according to Seventeen. It named her No. 1 on its first ever “Powerful Girls Under 21” list.

Selena’s comments, unsurprisingly, counter recent reports in sketchy web site HollywoodLife and other outlets that claim she is alone and miserable without Bieber.

“I do think I might scare some guys, because I’m like, ‘I want to change the world! I have dreams! What do you want to do?’ But I only know how to be me,” she added.

Gomez also says that friends like Katy Perry and Demi Lovato have helped her work through her insecurities follow her departure from her Disney show, “The Wizards of Waverly Place.”

“You can’t be afraid of what people are going to say, because you’re never going to make everyone happy,” she says.

“Girls are scared of saying what they want. So when you don’t like something, you have to say it. Demi taught me that.”

She says she talked to Katy about guys who are intimidated by strong girls. Katy should know. She went through a disastrous marriage to UK comedian Russell Brand.

“I had always been the underdog secretly. I was on Disney when it was Miley [Cyrus], the Jonas Brothers, and Demi [Lovato],” she says.

“I questioned the way I looked, acted, sang, and wrote. Then I turned 20, went through a really bad breakup, and realized I needed to have ‘Come & Get It’ be amazing.

“I wanted it all to be me. I’m glad it’s taken me this long to get where I am because now I am ready for it,” she said.
