Philip Seymour Hoffman’s tragic death from a drug overdose was pushed aside today (Feb. 7) by grieving friends and relatives, who gathered to remember Hoffman for his life as a father, friend and fellow actor.

Friends and colleagues Kate Blanchett, Amy Adams, Michelle Williams, Joaquin Phoenix and Justin Theroux all struggled to maintain their composure as they entered the church.

They were among an estimated 400 people who gathered at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, to mourn the fallen actor, who died Feb. 2 in his West Village apartment.

The church is well known for the funerals of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Lena Horne and other notable people.

Mimi O’Donnell, his longtime partner, looked grim-faced but determined to keep it together for their three children, Cooper, 10, Tallulah, 7 and Willa, 5.

They all stood, stoically, as Hoffman’s mahogany casket was carried inside by six pall bearers.

Among other celebrities spotted who had come to pay their final respects were Meryl Streep, Ethan Hawke, Ashley Olsen, writer and close friend, David Bar Katz, Spike Lee and Mary-Louise Parker

Family and close friends also attended a private wake at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in Manhattan on Thursday (Feb. 6)

Broadway paid its respects for his stage work by dimming its lights for one minute, Wednesday (Feb. 5), a time-honored salute to those held in esteem by the theater community.

Meanhile, dozens of people gathered for an all-night vigil to remember Hoffman following his shocking sudden death.
