Chris Pratt’s character, Peter Quill, is introduced along with his band of inter-galactic misfits in the world premiere trailer for Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy.” The campy sci-fi film is so eagerly anticipated the views are soaring on YouTube.

Since debuting last night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the 2:30 preview has racked up nearly 1.5 million views on the social media site.

The movie stands apart from previous Marvel fare, because it’s lead characters are all anti-heroes; polar opposites of larger-than-life figures like Thor, Iron Man and Captain America.

But the misfits share a common enemy, Ronin (Lee Pace), who is out to destroy them to recover an all-powerful orb.

The misfits are led by Quill, a semi-delusional starfighter pilot who likes to call himself “Star-Lord.” Dave Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer, who wants vengeance against Ronan for killing his family.

Zoe Saldana plays the fetching Gamora, a deadly green beauty. She is the daughter of Thanos, an associate of Ronan’s. But she wants to break away from the evil overlord, even though she’s “wanted on over a dozen counts of murder.”

They’re joined by Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid, and pal of Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a genetically rewired raccoon with human characteristics.

The film also stars Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio del Toro as Taneleer Tivan, aka The Collector.

The film hits theaters Aug. 1, in both conventional and 3-D theaters. Check out the new trailer below and be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for the latest Guardians update.
