New Django Unchained Trailer Out, After NRA Scores Hollywood Violence

After canceling a splashy premiere for Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti western send up “Django Unchained,” The Weinstein (Dec. 22) released the movie’s fourth trailer. It’s considerably toned down from previous teasers. Was that on purpose? Hollywood studios faced an onslaught yesterday from the National Rifle Association. Django, played by Jaime Foxx is a slave who agrees to help bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christolph Waltz) find two desperadoes. In exchange, Schultz agrees to rescue Django’s wife (Kerry Washington) from nefarious plantation owner Calvin J. Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio)....

Jack Reacher, Django Delays: Do Movies Really Play Role in Violence?

Quentin Tarantino’s latest film “Django Unchained” and Tom Cruise’s “Jack Reacher” have both been delayed as a result of the Newtown elementary school massacre. Is Hollywood finally admitting a connection between film violence and real life violence? The delay in premieres for both violent movies was ostensibly done out of respect for the families of the children and loved ones murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School. But it could also be construed to mean Hollywood is tacitly admitting that a connection really exists between movie violence and the random acts of violence that have swept the country in recent years....
