Colbert, Other Late Night Hosts Return With Powerful Gun Control Message (See!)

Stephen Colbert proved once again that late night comedians are one of the few sources of sanity in today’s culture. The talk show host spelled out the future of gun control and it begins and ends with the kids. “I hope these kids don’t give up, because this is their lives and their future,” Colbert said. “Someone else may be in power, but this country belongs to them.”...

Donald Trump Becoming ‘Massacre President’ in Wake of Mass Shootings

Donald Trump is fast becoming the “massacre president.” The number citizens killed or wounded in mass shootings is skyrocketing under his administration and putting it on a pace to become on of the bloodiest in modern political history. Trump’s latest reaction to the mass shooting at a Texas church suggests he has no plans to take any steps to address the problem....

Texas Reaps Gun Culture Whirlwind; ‘Snipers’ Slay 5 Dallas Police Officers

Texas is reaping a whirlwind from the seeds it sowed leading to its free-wheeling gun culture. Five Dallas police officers were killed and six others injured last night by four “snipers” who were armed with assault rifles and wore military-style body armor. Last year, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, a longtime gun rights advocate, signed a bill into law, enacting the loosest open carry law in the country. Buying an assault rifle in the Lone Star State is as easy as picking up a loaf of bread. Any owner is free to carry guns in public with an easy-to-obtain permit. ...

Trevor Noah Scolds Right Wing Scoffers Over Obama Newtown Tears (watch!)

Trevor Noah’s turn as Jon Stewart’s replacement on “The Daily Show” has been pretty uneventful–until last night. He took down right wing scoffers who criticized President Obama for tearing up over children and staffers slaughtered in Newtown, Conn. George H.W. Bush cried in 1999 recalling the moments leading up to the war in Iraq. Dwight D. Eisenhower cried in 1952 after a speech to the 82nd Airborne. George W. Bush cried during a Medal of Honor ceremony in 2007, Trevor noted. ...

Chris Rock SNL Monlogue Goes Off Grid of Political Correctness (watch!)

Chris Rock went where few if any comedians would dare tread, a shtick about terror attacks in Boston and New York City, during his monologue on “Saturday Night Live.” Even NBC censors were asleep at the switch. Rock, making just his second appearance on SNL as host, kicked off his seven-minute jibe talking about how hard it is to run a marathon, which as any Greek will tell you is 26 miles. “That Boston Marathon was scary… it was probably the most frightening, sadistic terror attack ever,” he said....

Newtown Killings: Gun Control Debate Needs to Change Focus

The tragic mass killing of innocent children at an elementary school in Connecticut has brought the gun control debate back into sharp focus, with new efforts in Congress to ban assault weapons. But the focus needs to be changed. This tragedy could have been avoided or sharply curtailed by simple restrictions on ammunition and the magazine clips that are made to hold up to 50 bullets at time....

Lone Gunman's Rampage Ends in More Meaningless Deaths

An apparent lone gunman's rampage in a Denver movie theater during a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises," raises questions once again about the easy availability of guns and the prevailing social psychology that motivates people to engage in wanton murder. According to police, the shooter, identified as James Holmes, 24, of Aurora, Colo., had no discernible motive and has no links to any organized terrorist group....
