Quentin Tarantino’s latest film “Django Unchained” and Tom Cruise’s “Jack Reacher” have both been delayed as a result of the Newtown elementary school massacre. Is Hollywood finally admitting a connection between film violence and real life violence? The delay in premieres for both violent movies was ostensibly done out of respect for the families of the children and loved ones murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School. But it could also be construed to mean Hollywood is tacitly admitting that a connection really exists between movie violence and the random acts of violence that have swept the country in recent years....
Tom Cruise may not have the physical stature of Jack Reacher, the character he’s playing in his new movie by the same name, but a new trailer for the film shows Cruise using all of his signature action/adventure stunts, from fast cars to fast fists. Aficionados of the Jack Reacher crime novels by Lee Child will take issue with Cruise’s casting. The fictional Reacher is six-feet, five-inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. Cruise is a diminutive five-feet, seven-inches tall. But he can deliver an action/adventure punch. Reacher was a Major in the U.S. Army Military Police who led a special investigations unit that handled the toughest cases. After he leaves the military, he becomes a drifter with no job, no car and no home....
