Former President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama took what could be considered the last act of their administration. They sat for official portraits destined for the National Portrait Gallery to hang next to portraits of Washington, Lincoln, Clinton and Bush. Reactions, so far, are… ah.. mixed. Steven Spielberg Unveils Teaser for Disney’s Enchanting ‘The BFG’ (watch)

Steven Spielberg has teamed up with Disney to direct Roald Dahl’s enchanting story “The BFG.” The first teaser trailer was released today (Dec. 9) and shows off Disney’s digital magic in a live action film about a little girl’s adventures in “Giant Country.” The story is about Sophie, (Ruby Barnhill) a precocious 10-year-old who encounters "The BFG" (Mark Rylance). That's "Big Friendly Giant" for the uninitiated. He stands 24-feet tall with enormous ears, keen sense of smell and very much introverted. ...

Ben Affleck got Oscar revenge at the Critic’s Choice Awards last night. He won for best director and his film, “Argo,” captured best picture, besting “Lincoln” with 13 nominations and “Les Miserables” with 11 nominations. Although “Lincoln” was up for the most awards it only won three, including Daniel Day Lewis for best actor. Jessica Chastain won the best actress award for “Zero Dark Thirty." Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln led the pack with 12 Oscar nominations followed by Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” with 11 as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled its choices for the 85th Academy Awards. Although mostly predictable, there were a few surprises. Daniel Day Lewis brings passion and fire to Abraham Lincoln in a new trailer that deals with the most consequential political decision in the nation’s history. In case there’s any mistake, the new clip makes clear the decision to abolish slavery echoes to this day. Director Steven Spielberg said he deliberately delayed releasing the picture until after this year’s presidential election to avoid turning it into “political fodder.” But he may be having second thoughts. Lincoln came around to the abolitionist point of view reluctantly, but he saw the justice in it and he saw it as a way to give moral authority to the Union cause....
