Roots Meet Harry Potter on Fallon; Result? Tariq Busts a Rhyme (see!)

Leave it to a fan to make this unusual request on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” How about a rap song based on the theme song for “Harry Potter?” Can do, Jimmy said… and called on The Roots to make it happen. As it turns out The Roots’ Tariq is a major Harry Potter fan, or so he said. He rapped to the Harry Potter theme as if it were a rap song to begin with....

Idina Menzel Sings ‘Let It Go’ Pre School Version on Tonight (watch!)

Jimmy Fallon may have a new show, but he’s up to old tricks again. He and Tonight Show houseband The Roots were joined by Idina Menzel to to perform the hit song “Let It Go” from “Frozen” soundtrack. Of course, Fallon and the band broke out the pre-school instruments especially for the tune. The talk show host has added his own signature arrangement to such songs as Carley Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me, Maybe” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” with hilarious, and always tuneful results....

Robin Thicke, who vaulted to the top of the charts with his catchy song “Blurred Lines,” shows just how simple it can get on the Jimmy Fallon show. He performs with the Roots playing a bunch of grade school instruments. It’s still just as catchy. Fallon and his house band have played similar impromptu sessions with Carly Rae Jepsen and Mariah Carey. So, it looks like the segment is on its way to becoming a regular feature....

Maria Carey Hangs With Jimmy Fallon for Hot Holiday Song (watch!)

Mariah Carey added the lights, the tinsel and the ornaments to Jimmy Fallon’s opening Christmas skit last night (Dec. 4). She belted out “All I Want for Christmas Is You” while The Roots provided backup with toy instruments. But Cary’s incomparable voice made it sound like a symphony. The skit was definitely better than the pop diva’s creepy duet with Justin Bieber last year to promote his first Christmas song album. Carey wore a skimpy, borderline inappropriate Mrs. Santa Claus outfit that would have been better suited for an Eighth Avenue hooker. ...
