Mexico’s Flourishing 18th Century Art


The Marriage of the Virgin (Los Desposorios de la Virgen) The artist, Nicolás Enríquez, was a member of the first academy of painters established in Mexico by the brothers Nicolás and Juan Rodríguez Juárez in about 1722. This unusually large painting on copper is one of a series of four that depict scenes from the life of the Virgin.
