Gigi Hadid, the rising model who had some problems being accepted because of her celebrity background, is unquestionably the real deal. She’s landed her first Vogue cover in UK edition’s January issue. Her rise is attributed to social media.

Hadid is the daughter of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Yolanda Foster, who is a former top international model in her own right.

Gigi’s celebrity helped pave the way for her modeling career, touching off some sniping among other models. They thought she hadn’t paid her dues. They also said she was taking work from models who weren’t as well off financially.

But Gigi quickly rose above the shade. It’s clear now, if it wasn’t then, that she has credibility all on her own.

At 5’10” tall, she has perfect model proportions. And, she has a stunning, exotic look, equal parts her Scandinavian mother and Palestinian father, Beverly Hills real estate developer Mohamed Hadid.

She tells the magazine:

“I don’t change anything about myself – what I post just works. When people are different on social media than they are in real life, it becomes forced. Cara Delevingne was never scared of being weird. She opened that door for me. But I don’t think I just get hired because I have Instagram followers. My jobs are also what gets me followers.”

Her appearance in this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is her latest triumph. She joined the brand’s Angels along with BFF Kendall Jenner. But that also generated some sniping.

Some critics claimed she was too “curvy” compared with the other models.

Her response:

“Yeah, I’m an athletic person. But I love my body because I know what it’s been through to be what it is, and honestly I’m not going to change for someone that is depressed about their life. The Victoria’s Secret Angels aren’t going anywhere; I’m not going anywhere; plus-sized models aren’t going anywhere.”

For her cover photo, Hadid wears a jumper by British high-street brand Topshop on the cover, along with a Bally leather jacket, according to the magazine.
