Supermodel Heidi Klum and musician husband Seal have put down some expensive roots in Hollywood, dropping in excess of $13 million on a sprawling Brentwood mansion with old world touches, including a fireplace mantel that dates from 1603.
The 12,300 square-foot Mediterranean-style house apparently drew a lot of interest.
Klum, 37, and Seal, 47, were forced to bid on the property and paid more than the $13.4 million asking price to seal the deal, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The house is located in the exclusive Brentwood Country Estates gated community in the Mandeville Canyon. Neighbors include California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and Reese Witherspoon.
But Bretwood also has a dark side.
That’s where football great O.J. Simpson’s wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman were murdered.
“There were multiple buyers interested, so there was a bidding war,” Rebecca Ross, a real estate agent for listing agency Hilton & Hyland told The Reporter.
Oddly, the house went on the market in October 2009 and failed to sell at a June auction after bidding fell short of the reserve price. The property was in foreclosure when the couple bought it.
The economy has picked up since then, not that Klum and Seal were ever affected by the recession.
One of the signature features of the house is an imported fireplace mantel from Scotland that dates back to 1603.
Another fireplace in the library is rumored to have come from one of French Emperor Napoleon’s home.
Klum and Seal have been married for five and have four children: Leni, six, Henry, five, Johan, three, and 13-month-old Lou.
