Daria Werbowy as the French say is une fille à la barre. She’s raised eyebrows around the world with her sizzling photo shoot in Madame Figaro. The Canadian model of Ukrainian descent was born in Poland, which truly makes her a child of the world.

She posed for the magazine on the beach, a harbinger of the coming summer, when the Mediterranean sun will be warm, the breezes will be cool and people will wear little or not clothing. As the French also say: C’est la vie.

Satoshi Saikusa was behind the camera and Cécile Martin handled the styling.

Werbowy featured clothes, swimwear and accessories by Isabel Marant, Louis Vuitton and Missoni.

Oddly, the willowy 5-foot, 11-inch tall beauty never gave much thought to modelling. But at 14, a friend’s mother, who owned an agency, convinced her to enter a modeling contest, which she won.

Before long she was with Elite Models in New York City. But the Sept. 11 terror attack on the World Trade Center disrupted the fashion season.

Werbowy returned to Canada, but soon decided to give modeling one more shot.

‘I returned to New York, met my agent and the next day I had an exclusive deal with Prada. From then on it was all a bit of a blur.” she told London’s Daily Telegraph.

For the next several years, Werbowy was a fixture on the runways of New York, Paris and Milan.

In 2004, she landed the coveted cover of American Vogue as one of the “Models of the Moment”.

Within three years, Forbes magazine proclaimed Werbowy the ninth highest-earning model in the world with estimated earnings at $3.5 million between 2006 and 2007.

That put her in the ranks of supermodels like Karolina Kurkova, Natalia Vodianova, Carolyn Murphy, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima, Heidi Klum, Kate Moss and Gisele Bündchen.

She’s been considered one of the world’s elite models ever since. And her stunning pictorial shows why. Check out her photos and the video below.
